O.P. Huh?  pc on, but monitor button just flashing
hi, my pc has been acting weird lately.
when i turn it on, i can hear it running, its making a low humming sound.
and the monitor is on, but its just a blank screen.

so i looked at the plug in the back on the pc, and the monitor connector is loose. is that a reason why it wont display anything on the screen?

also how do i know if my computer can have a video card installed? what do i look for on the motherboard?

and my pc has a video out ( its the same connector as a monitor one, but reveresed) does that mean i can plug in my monitor into that connector and it will work?

thanks

Well if it's loose there's a 95% chance that's the problem, you should fix it or fiddle around to get it to work.

Try to push the graphics card into its slot better (to stabilise the port).....use more screws if any are missing.  Just try making sure it's a firm connection, maybe try using a different cable if that could be the problem

The connector of your monitor cable is loose? Simple re-attach the cable? You can usually attach it firmly to the video port (VGA) at the back of your PC by using the 2 screws on the monitor cable connector. If there is more than 1 video port on the back of your PC which the monitor connector fits on, make sure you use the right one. Although you can safely try them all and see which one works, just don't breaks any pins by forcing it.

If it's the video card itself that's loose you'll have to open up the PC case and do like Danny said.
Finish the problem

If you do not have any display whatsoever on the monitor use the following troubleshooting steps:

Disconnect the monitor from the PC. If you get display stating no video cable connected or no signal your monitor is in working condition and unfortunately your video card may not be so lucky. If it still does the same thing when disconnected chances are your monitor is shot. Try another one.

That is if tightening the connection didn't resolve the issue.

That is a serial connection not a video port.
