PROBLEM SOLVED
The settings might have not been properly configured for you to receive the invites. Please follow the steps below:
1) Go and sign in here. (hotmail.com)
2) Select "Profile" from the top of the page under your Display name.
3) Click "Privacy Settings"
4) At bottom of screen, next to "Save" button, click "Advanced Settings"
5) At the bottom of this screen, move the slider for "Friend and group invitations" off "Everyone (public)"
