well, for programming, a P3 500 really sucks. A P3 600 (I have one), allready has troubles with just the f### os you want to use (winXP). When I enableedit: disable all visual sh#t, it works better.
It seems you don't have much money. Is that true? Anyway, for ~300 you won't get a good computer
