Could you maybe give us a link to the article you have read that says about the Windows 2000 Update? I'm prety sure that everything that every fix for Windows 2000 in Windows Update is either also availible for Windows XP, or it is already fixed in Windows XP.
You could just try to go to Windows Update (
http://www.windowsupdate.com ) with your Windows XP, and then download all the fixes their (can tae a while). After that reboot and see if your problem is fixed.
