I think you're not referring to MSN Messenger, but to the Windows Messenger that comes with Windows XP.

If you wish to get rid of that one, I'd advise you to take a look at CookieRevised's reply to I am about to rip my hair out over MS Messanger for a very detailed description of how to do this without causing further problems :)
