If it's not compatible with MSN 7 yet, it's because the /nick command does not work in Plus! 3.40. I hope Patchou will solve this issue soon . Anyway he already did a great job with MSN 7 nearly-complete compatibility

For the moment, you'll have to press the "Show Code" button in ColorNick after creating your nickname, copy the code, and then open Messenger's Options to paste the new nickname.
