How do we know, proof, no, I could come out with a 'theory' and people may believe it, possibly, einstein has gone down in history because of a theory, so has Stephen Hawking, he even admitted that some of his theory's were wrong... they can only speculate, it may be true, but it may not be.
That's simply because of the gravity, which all scientists say, can prevent light from going out from the surface.
