Well because you haven't tried uninsatlling and reinstalling, I suggest you do that.

To do so simply click Start > Control Panel (I'm asumeing you're using classic view if not just enable it) > Add\Remove Programs > MSN Messenger > then launch the uninstaller, then download and install it from clicking here.

Once you have done that all emoticons you have added will be erased. But after you try this when you add an emoticon and then reboot your computer or turn it off and back on or whatever makes the emoticons delete themselves, does the problem still occur?
