And it is a misconception. Cats have one life. So do humans (unless you believe in reincarnation).

What you mean isn't what the people who say cats have nine lives mean... you mean social, emotional, etc. in other words qualities of life... the strange people meant that cats can actually die eight times and come back to life, then the ninth time they die.
