If the metal hadn't been as tense only two or three of the five compartments would have flooded. Four compartments were the maximum that the ship could hold without sinking.
Cool, never knew that before. Wasn't there something about the captain being drunk? Don't know how much fact this is based on but i've definitely heard it somewhere.
