6.2 should not be on your computer anymore, it should have been upgraded to 7.0.0777 (the final msn version of 7)

now try restarting it.. if it doesnt work try uninstalling it and re-installing it..

ive been searching for threads similar to yours, but I have found no answer yet, but an interesting theory though,

have you installed any patches on your msn messenger ?

And ehh well do you see your friend's emoticons?
