if u r asking for global sound notification... (the sound when contact comes online or new msg alert etc.) u can already do this from windows....
go to control panel>sound and audio device>sounds then in program event scroll down to msn mesenger .. then select the event ( of which u want to change the sound) browse the sound u want to put then test if by the play button beside browse (if u want).. then klik on apply or ok button..
if it doesn't work then post here again...
and if u dont mean to sound notification then make it klear.....
