you can rearrange them anywhere in the desktop you like
you can also make them appear irrespective of the contact being online or not, finally if you rightclick on the desktop contact you can lock its position from the menu that appers
you can also try my plugin in my sig (contactlist auto-hide and docking as well as a balloon tip that goes of every spesific period of time)
Window Manager is discontinued, for WLM try the new, Enhancer for contact list docking, auto-hide, hide taskbar button, remove button flashing and remember keyboard layout in conversation windows
