This thread is old, but perhaps someone arrives here by searching what I was searching..

This still happens with the final 7.5.0299, and it's not Msgplus' fault. When I removed the StuffPlug plugin (by deleting the dll in the plugins folder), Messenger started normally. StuffPlug is what made MSN Messenger crash in the login screen in my case.
