RE: [split] Messenger upgrade causes pop-ups
If the upgrade is indeed Messenger Plus!, then don't run anti-spyware programs - just go to Add/Remove Programs and run the Plus! uininstaller. You can then remove the optional sponsor and leave Plus! installed
