Watch out!
Recently Paul predicted on the MessengerSays-blog that the numerous proxies and patches could well contain malicious virusses. He was right

WARNING: Finally, some of you may be so excited to use Windows Live Messenger that you’re tempted to try out a “hacked” version. Please don’t use it or link to it here – an unsupported alteration of our code can cause unpredictable behavior – including but not limited to exposing yourself to malware, spyware, viruses, or other software harmful to your computer.
...and I’m ashamed to say it got spread trough my servers.
I just got warned by a friend that someone named “cumhurat” was spreading a link to <link removed>, supposedly being the “MSNP13 Downgrader”.
This file was NOT uploaded by me, but by the same guy that hacked Web2Messenger earlier this year. Please do NOT run it.
Please be very very careful!
UPDATE 1
Apparently the file records the passwords you sign in with on messenger, and uploads them to an FTP server at “sifreavcisi.com”.
I’m not quite sure how it launches itself, but just to be on the safe side I advise everyone who thinks he might’ve ran it to add the following line to their C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts file (You can open it with notepad): 127.0.0.1 sifreavcisi.com
This will redirect all calls to that host to your local computer, and will thus prevent the virus from ever contacting their home.
I also recommend that everyone changes his or her password, as there is a very high chance that it has already been sent there…

The above is a warning for a particular downgrader; thus not the real downgrader.

ANOTHER REASON WHY PEOPLE SHOULDN'T USE PRIVATE BETA'S
quote:

The Windows Live Messenger version 8 is still not even a beta and thus can contain code which could harm your computer. This goes also for all private beta's.
Any leaks that come out of this program will jeopardize any plans to do programs and/or providing services to beta-testers like this in the future.
In other words, the more it is leaked, to less chance that stuff like public beta's will be released! Leakers and also those who download/use leaked stuff illegally actually damage the whole concept and private programs which make developping the products you love so much possible...
