Ahh, there was a chain thingy done several times in my country.
Basically, a guy got a button (normal button from a shirt), and traded it for something else (like a candy), and went on trading the stuff, until he got a few hospital machines for a remote hospital somewhere. Pretty cool, you could try doing something like that (on a smaller scale, of course).
