I don't have any experience about what would happen if you really ask it.
For me, I will stay in "friend zone" as I don't want to lose the friendship.
But, Dempseys, please think about this.
You have a potential (future-wise).
You are a good programmer, who have a bright future, which means you can support your family when you are married in a few years.
If she can see those facts, I am sure that she also wants more than a close friendship
If she doesn't and you like her so much, as some people already said, "play it slow and be careful."
