RE: RE: Are Potatoes Vegetables
Potatoes are is in the genus Solanums(this is more specific than the nightshadefamily) together with tomatoes and eggplants. Tomatoes are fruits and eggplants are berries. How can a potatoe be a vegetable then? Is the definition of a vegetable everything vegetable like which isn't a fruit?
A potatoe isn't really a root, it is a starchy tuber. Starchy means that it's complex carbohydrate which is insoluble in water. And a tuber is a storage organ so this means that the potatoes we eat is the stored energy the plant has stored for later. Doesn't this mean that potatoes aren't vegetables?
I know Time said this, but I didn't understand what he meant before I wrote this(and learned it as I wrote) The only reason I did this research of what a potato is was that I knew it wasn't a vegetable.
*edit I forgot to mention that I was wrong about the root vegetable. But this isn't important in this case since potatoes aren't root vegetables.
