The ungroup / group buttons are removed in the 4.xx versions. Not really a bug, Patchou just didn't include it for some reason, hope it will be back later.

That has nothing to do with Messenger Plus. Microsoft changed that in Messenger itself. You can use
A-Patch to patch your Messenger so it uses the old method if you wish.
