My business studies teacher worked for Coca Cola, and it's what they do. They've got lots of "tricks" which make people want to buy the coke, even though it's not the better tasting product.
You can't "pretend" you prefer the coke, you have to say which one you like the most, most people expect the nicer product to be the coke, which is why the say it (to suck up).
