RE: laptop batteries
Keep it in + what Adeptus said + the laptop should know when to charge and when to not charge (or only charge with a very small current/trickle charge) by itself, thus making it beter to leave it in than take it out.
Cold is the killer of batteries, and a mobile phone battery needing replacing after three years is unreasonable.
