This is, btw, a request which already has been made a couple of times though
And probably indeed already on the (extremely long) to-do list.....
As for the hotkeys:
There is a script which can do that: "
[Release] StatusKey (Version 2.0)"
You might wanna read the entire thread first though, as I'm not sure which attached script is the latest version - you get this when new versions are simply attached to new posts instead of only updating the first post of a thread with the new version and linking to it -)
But also, you could very easly do it with a QuickText too. Just make a new QuickText and add /online as the text and add a shortcut. Only (big) downside is that this will only work in a conversation window.
And by simply selecting a new status from the menu in your contact list, or from the system tray menu, you'll reset the personalised status too...
