Make two alarms: one which triggers each day at 10pm and sets your status to 'appear offline', and one which triggers each day at 8am which sets your status to 'away'.
I also recommend using the
Remember Status script. This script makes sure that you will always sign in with the same status you've used when you last signed out. This is handy for when your Messenger goess offline for some reason (connection lost, etc):
