I mean from the 2 examples you gave search engines generally give the same weight to both (for Google at list). It doesn't matter which one you use.
It becomes different when you start using queries like
http://www.sitename.com/fights.php?battle=1 or when you go too deep with folder levels
http://www.sitename.com/fights/battle/1/blah/more/stuff/and/so, not all search engines crawl that deep.
