It would not happen for every sentence, because it normally pops up once only when there isn't an opened chat window with the contact when he/she sends a message. And also if you enabled Windows Live Messenger's own feature for a similar toast, which shows the first words of the first message in pop-up, that toast delays the MsgPlus! Live's toast windows to appear until closes itself.

Can you check your configuration for Event Notifications in Messenger Plus! Live Preferences>Customize!>Event Notifications? Why you have seen this pop up twice (I understood it as consecutively twice) may be because of your configurations for her? You may have set up duplicate notifications?
As a conclusion, it may be a problem with your computer or programs you are running why you got the notification a bit later, and believe me it is not your contacts started chats with their own contacts.
