There are very few games (Crysis is the only one I know of, but there may be more) which actually use the 4 cores of a Q series CPU, so until your new CPU is outdated for future games you probably won't need a quad core.
for example:
-The Q9450 @2.66GHz will run most modern games at 2.66GHz on 2 cores.
-the E8500 @3.16GHz is cheaper and will run most modern games at 3.16GHz, also on 2 cores.
-also, the E8400 @3.00GHz is quite a lot cheaper compared to the CPUs above and runs only 160MHz slower than the E8500
If you really want a quad core, go for the Q9450 (as it has SSE4.1 and it's a 45nm CPU, so it runs cooler) or a QX series CPU (if you can afford one, but it's not worth the extra money IMO).
Well, at the moment i have a 3.0Ghz P4 478
.
I'm kinda building it so I don't really need to until another 3 or even 4 years.
Isn't the Q6700 quieter than the Q6600> Unless I read the article wrong.
I'm looking at an 8800GTS (new one) for my GFX too.
