Remember you can use
Web Messenger until the problem is resolved.
Give this a shot..

1. Exit Windows Live Messenger.
2. Click on START and RUN and type in control appwiz.cpl and hit Enter to open the Add/Remove Programs window.
3. In the Add/Remove Programs window,
a. Select Sweet IM and choose Remove.
b. Select Macro Gaming Sweet IM and choose Remove.
c. Select InfoPen and choose Remove.
4. Restart your computer.
5. Sign into Windows Live Messenger again and verify if the issue is resolved.
Also any other Messenger add-ons, SmileyCentral, etc. .. remove them.
