I don't think the next Plus! version will be released trough auto update immediately, because it will be released as a public beta version first. But you could keep an eye on the
news (subscribe to its
RSS feed for automatic notifications).
Eve if a new version is released trough auto update, it the worse case you could get that notification more than 3 weeks after the actual release. Auto update usually isn't activated together with the release on the site, but 1 or 2 weeks later to spread bandwidth and to make sure no serious bugs are released in the auto update. Also, auto update will only check for an update once a week, again, to save server resources.

Not everybody will appreciate that, it could be considered spammy. If you want to receive emails about Messenger Plus! news you could use a RSS to E-Mail service so you are mailed whenever something new is posted in the
newsfeed.
