Are you on windows vista?

In which case the aero effect can only be disabled by applying a shaped skin.

I am looking into adding this feature to my skin, as I too prefer the old design.

At the moment you have a few options:

a) Disable Aero on the whole system
b) Look into skinning and to create a minimally shaped skin
c) Put up with it
