You need to use the SendMessage API as stated on MSDN.

SendMessage has 4 parameters.
  • The handle to the item
  • The Message (LVM_INSERTCOLUMN)
  • The wParam (in this case column number)
  • The lParam (in this case LPLVCOLUMN)
