I just tried with mine.
After i lock it and move my mouse to it, but it didn't show anything.
(If you're talking about the tooltip saying "windows live messenger (Online) xxx@hotmail.com).

Try checking the preferences -> messenger -> messenger lock -> "Disable Messenger's tray icon tooltip and menu" option.
