O.P. My status is online but everyone says i'm appearing offline?

For some reason in my windows live messenger window i have the available status set but when i speak to people they say i'm on appear offline? why is this? a bug? how to fix?

also out of nowhere my nickname KEEPS changing into "??" i change it back to my original nickname but then it goes back to "??"
