yes, but if you had a codec pack (and they usually include directvobsub) then you could do all of this from one app 
but vlc avoids the needs for any codec packs......none of them are complete.....so VLC is the best option
i'd argue that klite and cccp are both pretty fucking complete
hell, even ffdshow on its own is pretty complete, but it doesn't include any splitters AFAIK.
