You do not use "
one of those screwdrivers" to check if there is current. Current is not voltage. Second, having voltage or current does not automatically mean the voltage or current is correct. Third, there is a difference between AC and DC. Fourth, some of such screwdrives are just continuity testers and shouldn't be used for anything else (other than screwing).
For proper checking you use a decent voltage/current meter.
Also, I hope you did not mean you started to poke around various contacts on the main board with that screwdriver to check if there is some 'juice' on the board.
Like I and others have said before, leave the electrical checking up to a qualified person!.
