O.P. New member and guest lockout
In april things are going to get busy again with floods of guests and new members, I think there should be a lockout for them so we can have the forums actually working (last year when the server was overloaded) this would actually mean some people could use it. New members wont be allowed to register until may or a week later or something and guests aren't allowed on the forums, and instead a direct link to the download for the latest msn messenger and plus is given instead.
Prob not going to happen but still?

RE: New member and guest lockout
Well, I don't like to block innocent users...
I suppose if we have problems with server load (I don't think we will), we could make a nice HTML page with all the most useful information on it, then redirect all the guests to it whenever the load is above a certain level.

RE: New member and guest lockout
Maybe members should get prioroty over non-members, so if the server does overload, then guests are the first to see the overload page. And members can continue untill it reaches critical level

Maybe a not newbie new member. Let's saysomeone who's gonna actively participate i forums may feel like a n00b. But anyway, this suggestion would be reasonably applicable.

This server is alot better than the one the forums were on last year at this time. quote: Originally posted by tomfletcherman

There goes support for new users... quote: Originally posted by tomfletcherman
guests aren't allowed on the forums
That means users who cannot view the board to try and find answers to their problems will register... hence creating more users who would just register to be able to view.
I know alot of the time in IRC we link to threads here as a way of providing support.

but wouldnt new users be allowed to be on more then others cause their the ones that would be needing the help, no point in having users here just to spam.

Like last year?
And i think member priority is essential. How can i help the newbies flooding the server if they are the only ones able to access it.
I don't think it'll be that bad though
Although the hype might start building up soon if Patchou confirms release dates and stuff. Mess and Neowin certainly have huge followings And they'll point people here no doubt
