O.P. Huh?  Messenger Plus attracting Spyware & Ad-aware?
I wanted to ask why does Messenger Plus attract so much Spyware and Ad-aware? When I run my Spyware scanners, a lot of it comes under Messenger Plus. Please sort this out as I do enjoy using this software and I really do not want to uninstall it.

Thank You.:)

RE: Messenger Plus attracting Spyware & Ad-aware?
Hello Takeshi-Jay,

Messenger Plus! comes bundled with an optional sponsor program. This means that you are never forced to install it; during installation you can choose to install it, but you can also choose not to install it.

Programs such as Microsoft AntiSpyware recognise Messenger Plus! as an adware bundler - which it technically is, the sponsor is adware only, no spyware - and they actually list all the files in the directories, all registry keys and so on. However, if you did not install the sponsor, there's nothing of the such on your computer.

If you did install the sponsor program, you can easily unstall it by following the instructions at How to uninstall ad-ware/sponsor. However, if you did not, you can simply ignore the warning (I believe Microsoft AntiSpyware's default action is actually ignore) :)

If you have further questions, don't hesitate to ask them :)

Lots of programs has messenger plus! as spyware, but trust me, it isnt true. Messenger plus! is not spyware, but has an optional adware program.

Check out this page to find out more about this optional program. http://www.msgplus.net/help_faq.php?

OK, thanks but I did not install the sponsor programms, I chose not to. And yet, I still get Ad-aware and crap when I scan my PC.

I use: Ad-aware SE Personal, pc Orion, NoAdware and Spybot.

Then this isnt messenger plus!'s fault.
Either your anti-spyware program is wrong or you did install the the sponsor.

Or the adware came from another source.

I did not install the sponsor as I was told before hand that I would get viruses from porn, which I DO NOT WANT! May this be true, i do not know, but I gurantee that I did not install the sponsor program and have a look at the spyware scanners I use.

The sponsor program has been modified so it contains no adult content. Also note that the sponsor program contains no viruses. It adds desktop shortcuts, favorites and an Internet Explorer toolbar.

I think that what the spyware program found was not the sponsor, but the actual messenger plus files as many programs think plus is bad.
