I dunno how many folks have tried to do this yet, and of those who have, how many had a hard time. I didn't get around to it until last night, beat on stuff for about an hour, then gave up and went to bed and tried again this morning (successfully, I'm happy to say).
So, if any body is planning on doing this, or tried and gave up, here's what I ended up doing:
First off, my router. I don't really think it makes a huge difference, but bears stating anyway. I'm using a Linksys WRT54G Wireless Router.
The steps to setting up the network properties on the PSP are pretty straightforward, not terribly long or complex. Unfortunately, there are some minor, but show-stopping things the instructions just don't cover (which is what stung me last night) that could derail your fun train real fast.
After setting up the info in the PSP for the network, I did the test connection function. It sat for a few seconds, then came back with a cryptic 80410D09 error. After consulting the oracle Google, I learned the PSP is only 802.11b compatible, and I had the router running 802.11g only.
Switched the router to Mixed. This looked like it would do the trick, since the connection test screen sat a bit longer. Good news was, I didn't get the 80410D09 error. Bad news was I got a 80110482 error this time.
Hat in hand, I hit Google up again. It appears some people were having problems with the channel the router operated on and many people were having success with channel 11. I was on 6, so I changed that. Now here I got lazy. Another thing I was seeing a lot of were people saying they had to switch to 128 bit security. I was running 64 bit, so I changed that as well and never tested to see if simply switching to channel 11 was "good enough".
I went through the network setup on the PSP again and entered the new (now monstrously long, LOL) key, then ran the test again.
SUCCESS!
So, things to check if you're having trouble:
Make sure you've got 802.11b compatibility turned on because the PSP won't run with 802.11g.
Try a different channel. Looks like ch.11 may be the one to pick.
Switch to 128bit security.
OTHER things you may find useful:
Some people mentioned needing to give the PSP a permanent IP address in the router. You'll need the MAC address from the PSP (which you can get from the setup menu on the PSP).
Contrary to what I did above, some people say they have no problem with 64 bit security.
Some people had MAC filtering turned on. Turn it off or make your PSP an exception (which may mean again, you'll need to give it a static IP).
Make sure DHCP is enabled in the router.
Some folks only got it to connect after setting their router to B only (kinda sucks having to do that, IMO, but you can always switch it back after you're done if you like, I suppose).
Hope this was helpful!
