O.P. Computer Freezing at startup...
my computer keeps freezing at startup...

its gets so far and then stops and to use it you have to goto task manager quit explorer.exe and run explorer.exe again...

im using it now to type this but i cant access the start menu and not everything has loaded up in the system tray as normal....

hmmm 10 minutes into start up and whilst im typing this its loaded a few fings and the start menu now works....

what would be causing the computer to do this?

im just about to start disabling loads of startup programs...

anything you can suggest?

EDIT:

heres my startup ... what can i disable? ive never seen the 2 microsoft things before... they might be doing something?

Do you use a network that does not work?  Sometimes it takes a while as it's trying to connect to the network and is failing, then it keeps on retrying till about 10 minutes then leave all the processes come on.

You gave the solution yourself ;):

Be very selective in what you load at startup. On the average computer, many stuff gets into those startup registry settings and startup menu's and stuff. Extremely many stuff of that is not needed at all, even despite what some software might say.

Also see "CookieRevised's reply to Slow Startup"... including the links provided in that post. Read everything carefully ;)

-----------------

Edit: (crop the image you've provided to only the important part, all the rest is useless and only takes up bandwidth. Not to mention the huge image distorts the thread layout)

As for what you can disable: You can disabled everything except
"AVG control center"
"MessengerPlus"
and maybe "Tablet Client Driver" (but, if it was a true driver it wouldn't be needed as a startup item, so I even doubt you need this too)

All the other stuff is in fact not needed at all and only simply sits there doing nothing. all the other stuff is not required to run windows or any tools you might have. Most of the stuff is simply for ""convenience"" (mind the strong quotes); stuff which is placed there by their manufactures in case you "might" wanna use the program; they are mostly absolutely not nessecairly.

But also note that what you showed is far from all the stuff which is started up when you boot up windows. There are many, extremely many, other places where stuff is automatically loaded. For a proper view of all this use AutoRuns, a program by SysInternals. More info on this can be found in the threads/links in the post I linked to at the beginning of this post..

also the thing about the network slowing it down.... my other pc was COMPLETELY out of virtual memory, frozen, and just.... messed up (i didnt know this...) but if it was having trouble tallking to that which slowed it down then that would be fixed now :)

I had a different solution but the problem was the same.kinna.When i am very lazy and shut my computer off incorrectly..by bang closing the lid right in the middle of programmes, Not shutting down the right way...my comp always would freeze when i would start up again on start up..so well..I try and not be lazy and shut my comp down correcty..though I still slip up sometimes.:P

The first four you shaold be able to disable, along with all the NVIDIA entries, Nero home and MOffice.

What is Tablet Client Driver? It looks a bit dodgy to me, but I don't know anything about it.
