O.P. slow utorrent speeds
Ok,
I have utorrent and i never ever get speeds higher then 30 kB/s

Does anyone know why and what I have to do the router seems to forward the ports correctly but is there any settings in need to do in utorrent or windows to make it download faster?

Thanks,
Nathan :)

edit: it also has the red icon with the exclamation mark.

Well, if you have a really crappy internet speed, or if the torrents you download only have seeders which doesn't have any good upload speed, then that's why. :P

What router/modem do you have?

Then it's not able to 'punch through' the router properly. You may need to activate uPnP set up a port forward on a single port to your machine.

I had to configure my router to do the same thing. Go to the Speed Guide off the top menu, and "Test if port is forwarded correctly" You'll either get a page with
quote:
Welcome to the µTorrent Port Checker.
A test will be performed on your computer to check if the specified port is opened.

Checking port 33932 on xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx...

OK! Port 33932 is open and accepting connections.

You will be able to receive incoming BitTorrent connections.

or

A test will be performed on your computer to check if the specified port is opened.

Checking port 33932 on xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx...

Error! Port 33932 does not appear to be open.

Please see www.portforward.com for more information about how to map a port.

Please make absolutely sure that PeerGuardian2 or Protowall is allowing utorrent.com (72.20.34.145) in either of those programs. Those of you using ipfilter.dat should make sure the list does not include the website's IP. After making sure of this, re-run this test by refreshing the page (F5).

Note that the port number is arbitrary and doesn't need to be the same as mine. As long as your router can forward it, any port is fine

You mean you enable Encryption? Or port forwarding?

RE: slow utorrent speeds
It sounds like your internet service provider is throttling your torrents. If this is the case, then I feel very sorry for you because there aren't any full proof solutions, but the following should help you a little bit:

Go to Options > Preferences... > Advanced and set "peer.lazy_bitfeild" to true.

Now change to the "BitTorrent" section of the preferences window and set encryption to "Enabled" and "Allow incoming legacy connections" at the bottom.

See, that should help with public trackers but in reality you aren't going to get any decent speeds on public trackers while being throttled. The only way you are going to experience regular speeds is by joining private tracker communities where the majority of users use encryption enabled clients, and even then it is hard to maintain the required ratios.

BTW, I am currently under really heavy throttling by sudden link but achieve decent speeds on torrent damage and OiNK. Ask around for invites.
