I might be old and thick but recently when I try to log in - keyboard typing lags and then I get:

Signing in to Windows Live Messenger failed because the service is temporarily unavailable.  Please try again later.

Error code:  800401f3

Can anyone help in simple straightforward instructions??

that didn't work - now got

DllRegisterServer in C:\WINDOWS\System32\msxml3.dll failed.
Return code was 0 X 80004005

go start -> run -> type in "/regserv msxml3.dll" and see if it helps

OK try doing a search and see if it comes up...just put "msxml3" as your criteria and see if it shows up. If it does, post the locations, otherwise I can help you get the file needed.

msxml3a.dll in
C:/windows/system32

msxml3r.dll in
C:/windows/system32
C:/program files/common files/microsoft shared/SFPCA Cache

now what??????

try installing the Microsoft XML Parser (MSXML) 3.0 Service Pack 5 and see if it makes any difference.

did you restart after installing it? would be a good idea
