The point is that salary doesn't have anything todo with being rich/richest, etc...

To everyone who thinks these statistics are false:

I by the way used a dutch source for these statistics. The links above refer to an English partner of that website. I noticed this partner displays  wages in dollars too, which are different from the dollar statistics I posted(I used a dollar calculator, but little differences between valuta's are major changes when we are talking about millions ):

According to this site:
Salary Bill Gates $        600,000
Salary Madonna $   50,000,000

Edit: Some people have even bigger incomes than Madonna I noticed.

Fixed the typo: but in Dutch we write salaris, so I was confused.

Bill Gates is currently pretty much ending his Microsoft career and getting ready to spend fulltime on charity. He doesn't do that much anymore like what he used to do, he's mainly the man for press conferences now . Also he, like mentioned before, gets a lot of his money is paid trough stocks, shares and bonuses that are not (fully) included in the calculations from websites.

While Madonna is still very actively doing work (new CD, world tour and everything).

Doesn't really surprise me. But it doesn't mean at all Madonna is richer than Gates.

It's a complicated procedure, most founders of companies are an employee of their company, but they don't really need to draw a salary. However, in order to be able to represent the company, they need to be an employee, in order to be an employee they have a "symbolic" wage that doesn't really mean much.

They get most of their money because they have millions of shares and options in the company.

Bill Gates may just donate his salary to charity or something.

Madonna is signed to a label, and the label, pretty much organises everything for her, such as records, tours, promotion, merchandise, etc. Usually in conjuction with management firms and other people that represent Madonna.

But since the record label basically "owns" the Madonna brand, all the money will first go the label, then from the label to Madonna, so she in effect receives all the money as a salary.

Remember, there is a difference between your salary and your income.

pay != to what you own

A salary does not reflect on how rich you are.

A man could earn £0 a year and live on interest for the rest of his life.
