I've recently taken to hibernating my Win 7 desktop instead of leaving it on all day and I'm finding that it's starting itself up for no reason.  It definitely hibernates okay, but will randomly turn itself back on (sometimes while I'm in the room)

I don't think it's a problem with the computer as my girlfriend's laptop has done the same thing....I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas/suggestions?

I use the ybrid sleep option in win 7 as well and does the same thing. It turns on but doesn't power on fully, as the monitors don't turn on. Stays on for 2-3 mins and turns off again. My best guess is something to do with scheduled tasks but I can't say for sure.

I'm having the same problem. Mine happens at the same time every day (7a.m. ) so I thought it'd probably be due to scheduled tasks. I deleted some of them which thought might be causing it, but I've been using Shut Down since, so not sure if it's fixed or not.

Often this kind of behaviour is caused because devices like your NIC are allowed to wake up your PC, so when it's time to renew your IP for example it will wake up your PC to do so.

You can prevent a device from waking up you PC by going to the device manager, right click the device and choose properties. On the Power Management tab you can deselect "allow this device to wake up my computer".

You can also use powercfg to see what devices are allowed to wake up your computer and which ones did. Open a command prompt and enter powercfg /? for the options this program has...

the scheduled tasks idea is not so wrong; I'm aware of a Media Center related task which is allowed to wake the laptop up at 2 o' clock (IIRC); I used to have this problem as well, i just disabled that task

Hm, I do have media center running, maybe that's when its updating the listings for the tuner.

Yeah, I noticed Media Centre doing something too, so I've disabled the automatic updates in the settings and now and it seems to be keeping itself off again
