If you don't know the exact and complete version number _and_  the release date (because there are regulary silent updates) of the version you had before, then it is of no use to suggest an individual version number; it wouldn't mean a thing.

What main version was that "before this update"? Was that already Messenger Plus! 5 or was that Messenger Plus! 4?
(the difference is quite noticable since the interface style of Plus! 5 is very different).

If "before this update" was already Messenger Plus! 5 then you can find the main releases of the offline installers here:
version 5.00.0702 (last updated: 2011-02-17 14.14.52 GMT)
version 5.01.0706 (last updated: 2011-03-31 14.37.35 GMT)
version 5.02.0712 (last updated: 2011-05-31 15.45.13 GMT)
version 5.02.0712 (last updated: 2011-06-14 08.29.22 GMT) (silent update)

If "before this update" was Messenger Plus! 4 then you can download version 4.90.0392 from the official website (scroll down on the download page).

Please test _all_ above versions and report back when you find the latest one which don't seem to suffer from that emoticon issue. Also test each version thoroughly since the issue might maybe not occur immediatly.

5.01.0706 is fine, it just appears to be the latest version and the silent update. I haven't a clue why though, any ideas?

SO, I had this same problem, read the entire post, tried these versions and BOTH 5.02 versions have this bug, downloaded 5.01, then no bugs anymore!!!

Since the guy didn't explained that good I'll try to explain it further

Emoticons are completely bugged, they doesn't apear on the right spot but on the end of the text
Example using a Forever Alone emoticon with Fovalon shortcut

You are so Fovalon, no one likes you

but this is not everything, MSGPlus sounds doesn't work, User sounds doesn't have the "Listen..." clickable, so if you do not let it play when you receive, you can't click it to play

User Files, when someone tries to send you a File, you cannot click accept, save as or cancel, you CAN, however, use the shortcut keys to do these actions

Other functions like /me doesn't work because it adds a * in front of the sentence, breaking function!!!

well, these are all the problems I found, and Reverting to 5.01 DID worked, and I don't have any problems

That indeed sounds like 5.02 has problems with text alignment and rich content in certain cases.

On what Windows version is this by the way?
And do you have any other addons or plugins installed?

These are the version of the programs which the bug ocurred
Windows 7 SP1, WLM 2011 15.4.3508.1109, (aren't these last 4 digits a weird combination for a program?) and Plus version 5.02.0712
I have some plugins, but, I removed them all to see if one of them was the problem, but still had all the bugs mentioned before!!!
I did even uninstalled Plus, removed all plugins, Started WLM, had NO BUGS AT ALL, everything worked fine, then installed a fresh version with nothing else, and I had the same problems again!!!
so I figured it out the issue was with Plus, then I came here looking for answers, saw this post, and you know the rest...

Nope, a compleet version number can contain up to 4 numbers:
major . minor . build . revision
(sometimes revision number and build number is switched)
