i used your version and sorry to say it made absolutely no difference whatsoever but fear not i have made them look slightly better using a mixture of paint and PSP 8 i will include a screenshot of them both to compare
ok they look slightly worse now but not a great deal different from the originals (i am talking about a couple of pixels here) but i still dunno what you mean by a black background because this is what happens on my msn with a pure black background [see enclosed pic] it shows up the actual message window with the greyish bit in it. thus making no difference what so ever

i feel like a perfectionist when it comes down to non school or tidy room stuff aswell (I think its got to me!)BTW i finished those emoticons then i got a BSOD [Blue Screen of Death] and lost all my work should be back soon

It's not in any of WMP's files and/or directories. It is in some windows resource file. I ripped it before so I can't remember which one, but here it is:

And about that 100% black thing by PsychoMark... I also use custom window themes, used them long before MSN 6 came out, and NEVER had anything like that
