what i think would come on handy,

is the ability to get only pop-up screens saying people come online, from groups you choose to

(ie, not from your "other contacts"-group, because you almost never chat to those folks)

You can already do that!

• In the main Messenger window, menu Tools > Options > General tab > uncheck the 5th check box (the one that says show notifications when my contacts sign in.
  
  
• Click Ok, and go to Plus > Preferences > Notifications > Popup defaults, and select Enable Messenger Plus! notifications when contacts sign in.
  
  
• Click Ok and for each contact in your contact list you want to be notified when s/he signs in, right click on his/her name and select Messenger Plus! extras > Notifications.
  
  
• Choose to be notified every time and select the last box (signs in)

You're done!
