Can someone tell me whats happened to my task manager. im on windows xp and if you right click in the system tray and click task manager you should be able to shut down programs, ive used this method to shut down programs which crash for like two years.

except i now cant. if i click task manager now i get just the processes my computer is currently doing and not the programs too. in fact it doesnt have a taskbar at the top either. its incredibly annoying and i want to know whats happened.

any ideas? if anyone wants to see what i exactly mean i can get a picture if anyone requires it.

did you try to double clic in one of the (grey) margins?

I did that as well. I thought it was another program that did it and asked for help at a support site silly old me...
