Yes it is....
Not all errors come in the form of "blah blah 0x08000307"...
BluexDreams,
This is a long shot but you can try the following:
1. Make sure MSN Messenger isn't started yet
2. Start
this program and enter your problem email. This program will calculate your MSN ID number. Write it down for later reference.
3. Open your registry editor (
Start > Run > regedit), locate
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MSNMessenger\PerPassportSettings
4. Now you'll see a bunch of numbers as subkeys. These are MSN Passport ID's. Click on the number which you've found in step 2
5. In the right panel, you'll see some keynames and values. Delete the following keynames (select them and press <DEL> or right-click on them and choose "delete/remove"):
*
MessageLoggingEnabled
*
MessageLogPath
6. Close the registry editor and Start MSN Messenger and try to sign in with your "faulty" email... Try a couple of times to make sure (reboot, sign in, ...)
7. If it worked then you only need to set back the option for logging in MSN. This means you have to enable/disable it and fill out the correct patch again. (
Tools > Messages > Message History > ...)
If it didn't work and you still get the same error, you can try the following next:
(if it isn't the same error then repost a screenshot of the new one)
Note: This will make you loose your Display Pictures, Custom Emoticons and Background for your "faulty" email.
1. Make sure MSN Messenger isn't running. If it is, then right-click it's icon in the systemtray and choose "exit".
2. In Windows Explorer, navigate to:
\Documents and Settings\<your_windows_accountname>\Application Data\Microsoft\MSN Messenger\
3. Now you see again a bunch of numbers. These are again those MSN Passport ID's. Delete the entiry directory which is your MSN Passport ID.
4. Start MSN Messenger and try to sign in with your "faulty" email... Try a couple of times to make sure (reboot, sign in, ...)
5. If this method worked, then make sure logging options are set correctly (because you've deleted them in the previous method). This means you have to enable/disable it and fill out the correct patch again. (
Tools > Messages > Message History > ...)
