O.P. Dodgy  0x81000301
:cry:Hello please help it keeps giving me this message and i dont know why, i recently installed adsl and every since then i can not log into messenger as it keeps telling me that im not connected to the internet, but with adsl i am 24/7 please help me i missing my friends:'(

It's a connection error.
Check Messenger's conneection settings (Tools > Options > Connection). If you're not using MessengerDiscovery or something similar, uncheck the 'Use a proxy' box. Then click OK, and try again.

nope that dosent work, even if i type in the proxy settings and click test connection it tells me successful but when i try sign in it still gives me that error code:S

0x81000301: The Winsock layer could not establish a connection.

First, if you don't need a proxy then don't use it.

Second, make sure that no firewall (like ZoneAlarm) is blocking your MSN Messenger connection!

Also, did you try out the build-in troubleshooter? Press the button when that errormessage shows up.

Fourth note: If you've removed spyware/adware with an automated tool (Spybot, Ad-aware etc...) it could have damaged the Winsock layer beyond normal repair.

To reinstall/fix a defective winsock layer:

If that doesn't work, and as a last resort, you can refer to:
Signing in problem (0x81000370) (works for some other errors too)
Signing in problem (0x81000302)
Signing in problem (bad cache problem)
