O.P. WINDOWS Folder
What is the size of the WINDOWS folder on your PC because mine is 4.04Gb (this is "size" not "size on disk")
It has 26,488 files and 1,051 folders. :o
Can someone tell me if this is a normal size for your Windows install?
Please post your WINDOWS folder folder info as well as I would like to compare. To get this info right click the WINDOWS folder (should be in the root of the C: drive) and click Properties.
Im worried my WINDOWS folder might be abnormally large which could be slowing down my PC.

RE: WINDOWS Folder
Firstly, my WINDOWS (XP Pro) folder is 2.51GB, 14,189 files, 1,024 folders.

Next, the size of something on your HDD should not slow your computer down. It may slow down file searching using the search utility, but otherwise it has nothing to do with system performance.

If you have a lot of programs installed, they prob. have components installed in the Windows directory, off the top of my head I know about 10 common programs that add components to the WINDOWS directory.

What version of windows do you have? (Pre 95 :P, 95, 98, 98 SE, ME (:dodgy:), 2000, Server, XP,Server 2003, XP Media Center Edition, Codename Longhorn), etc?

I've got 3.36gb...22,191 files and 953 folders...There isn't a standard size for this, since things that you have installed (like drivers, java, engines and stuff) will change the size...

RE: WINDOWS Folder
The size of a folder does not affect speed.
Things like the amount of running processes, and disk fragmentation affect speed.
Try defraging, and look at all your active processes and see if there is anything uneeded consuming lots of resources.

RE: WINDOWS Folder
windows xp should be 2-3 GB, then the temporary internet files folder would be most of the rest of the space.

i run windows 2000 pro. my windows folder is 1.8 GB. my temp internet files folder is on a different hard drive, taking up just over 500 megs.

RE: WINDOWS Folder
Mine is 3.04 GB (Size; Not Size on disk)
It has 17,429 files and 840 folders.
But these things slightly vary as u install some extra drivers or some softwares (cause they have a few files here, not many)
Oh ya, mine is win xp sp2 version 5.1 and build 2600 if thats of any help. (i dont think that the non bold part is of any use yet if anyone wants it ....)
Also the space of the windows folder or the total space consumed on your hd only affects your startup and shutdown times (initially). But as your pc's hd gets full (and i mean nearly full) yes then it affects even the running speed of your pc.
This is what i have noticed:)
